Tsunami Relief

****  International Holistic Festival in Thailand  ****

As part of Joy International's continuing commitment, we are pleased to invite you to be part of an historic event benefiting tsunami survivors and you.

The work in Indonesia continues. The rebuilding of homes, roads and businesses could take years. The damage is beyond description. Almost everyone in the Aceh region has lost family, friends or homes. Lives are also beginning to rebuild as the shock wears off and life goes on.

The 9.1 earthquake took many lives eleven minutes before the 32 foot high wave
crashed onto the shore.

In addition to losing family, friends, homes and possessions, the Thai people are now facing a severe economic crisis as a result of lost tourism, which is their number one industry. Please note that the areas affected represent less than 1% of the tourist areas. In spite of erroneous media,  there is no threat of disease and accommodations are heavily discounted. Spending vacation money in Thailand, Indonesia and Sri Lanka may be an excellent way to help the relief effort. You will also see some of the most spectacular scenery on the planet for very little money. For example, some luxury hotels in Thailand are less than $20 now. The Thai people are also famous for their hospitality, good humor and great food. Spread the word !

Pictures cannot effectively relate the extent of the damage. However, these pictures give some idea of the force of the waves because buildings even a mile from the shore were leveled.

Joy International is working with various organizations concerning a possible 10,000 missing Burmese migrant workers, some of whom are believed to be hiding for fear of deportation because of lost documents.

.We have joined with the world's largest ever relief effort focusing on Southeast Asia where the death toll is exceeding 280,000 people. Joy Center volunteers worked on emergency teams after hurricanes as well as the August, 1999 earthquake in Turkey which took 17,000  lives. Please revisit this site often as there may be new photos of the relief effort.
